What you need
- A FreeBSD 13.x VPS with SSH access as root. The serverfiles in the catalog run on FreeBSD; if the server runs another system, the panel refuses to install before changing anything.
- An IP authorized in AutoSVF. The hosting provider buys the authorization. Check the IP for free, without an account, on the home page.
- A free account in the AutoSVF panel.
- The game client that matches the serverfile. For many serverfiles you download it from the panel after installing.
- A database tool, for example Navicat, to manage accounts and game data.
1. Choose the VPS
Ask your provider for a VPS with a fresh FreeBSD 13.x install and root access. Resources (CPU, memory, disk) depend on the serverfile and on how many players you expect, so ask the provider what they recommend for Metin2.
Before paying, check whether the VPS IP is authorized. If it is not, the provider can authorize it from the providers page: 5 EUR per IP or 50 EUR for a whole class, one-time payment. As a server administrator, you pay nothing for the panel.
Already have a server with data? The installation deletes the existing game server and databases (/usr/home/*, /usr/game, /var/db/mysql, /mt2). Make a backup first.
2. Install the serverfile
Everything happens in the browser, in the panel:
- Create an account with an email and a password.
- Enter the server details: the IP, the SSH port (usually 22), the root user and the password or SSH key. The panel tells you right away whether the IP is authorized.
- Pick the serverfile from the catalog. Each one has a presentation with screenshots or video. On a freshly installed VPS, also tick the 32-bit libs, which go into
/usr/lib32. - Confirm that you understand what gets deleted and start the installation.
- Watch the live log. The panel cleans the server, downloads game and mysql, creates the symlinks and restarts the machine.
The SSH password and key are only used while the installation runs and are never stored.
3. Change the passwords you get
At the end, the panel shows the Navicat (MySQL) password, the GM account username and password and the GM character name. These are the serverfile's default passwords, so change them right away:
- the VPS root password, over SSH, with the
passwdcommand; - the GM account password, in the database (accounts table);
- the MySQL password: if you change it, update it in the game server's configuration files too, or the server can no longer reach the database.
4. Connect the client
After a successful installation, the panel shows download buttons for the client and the descriptors when they are available for the chosen serverfile (sometimes also the server and MySQL binary sources).
The client needs to know your server's IP. In most clients, the IP is set in the client's connection configuration file (usually serverinfo.py, inside the root archive). Replace the old IP with your VPS IP, repack the archive and start the game. The exact details for each serverfile are in its presentation.
5. Common problems
- “The IP is not authorized”: talk to your hosting provider so they contact us or buy the authorization. Send them autosvf.ro/en/providers.
- “The server is not running FreeBSD 13”: reinstall the VPS with FreeBSD 13.x from the provider's control panel.
- SSH connection fails: check the port, the password and whether the firewall allows SSH connections from outside.
- Download errors: the VPS has no internet access or the connection dropped. The installation is marked “With errors” and you can run it again.
- The installation takes too long: the panel automatically stops any installation over 45 minutes. Check the VPS speed and start again.
